“Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people—people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.”
— E.B. White
I’ve taken to carrying Strunk and White in my purse in hopes that I’ll actually catch up on all the grammar my progressive elementary school assumed that I’d learned innately. Instead, all I was left with was an inability to write legibly in cursive, the speed reading skills of someone with ADD, and lack of understanding of the difference between it’s and its. So the message here: Learn something once and then you won’t have to spend the rest of your life as a “writer” making it up as you go along.
Also E.B. White is awesome and Charlotte’s Web makes me cry.
